Auxiliary Corner - May 2024
Happy Spring!
Finally, I think the nice weather has arrived! April was a busy month. Our basket raffle had a great turnout, and we were able to raise $3700 to help our Veteran Programs. Thank you to everyone who donated baskets and volunteered their time to make the event successful! We will be having another basket raffle in the fall.
April 11th, we attended the National Commanders visitation dinner at the Holiday Inn, Saratoga. There were nine auxiliary members in attendance at the dinner. Thank you to those who were able to attend. Our Auxiliary is becoming more involved, and I appreciate you all.
April 13th Our post had the honor of hosting the incoming officers of District 4. We had a great turnout at the dinner. Auxiliary District 4 current President, Sheila Holman, and incoming President, Kim Quick were able to visit with some auxiliary members. I must give a big shout out to our membership. You all are doing a fantastic job, and our Unit is becoming noticed throughout County, District and Department levels. Keep up the magnificent work!
Our Walkathon held on April 20 was highly successful. We do not have final numbers yet, but I can give a HUGE shout out to our own June Gaulin for another successful year of collecting donations. At last count, June had already collected over $6000 herself. Congratulations June on a job well done! Our luncheon was received quite well. Thank You so much to Danielle Haxstun for your macaroni salad, Karen Johnson for your fabulous tray of cookies. Some people asked me if I had the recipes. Shout out also to Dawn Palmer and Michelle Duprey for your help serving and cleaning up!
Some of you may have already heard, The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, is coming to our Post next year. The dates are July 24-28 of 2025. Next year is also the 50 Year Remembrance of the Vietnam War. We will need a lot of volunteers to help make this event successful. If you would like to volunteer or donate to Bring the Wall Home, please email [email protected]. We will be putting a committee together for this soon. Stay tuned for more information as it arises.
Our upstairs museum has been spruced up and ready for visitors. The museum is open to the public during Legion business hours. If you know of anyone that would be interested in seeing the museum, please reach out and invite them to visit.
Our Auxiliary has been putting their heads together to produce ideas that our homebound members could do from home. So many of them would still like to be involved in Auxiliary programs but are unable to attend meetings or functions due to health issues. If you have any ideas that would be helpful to get our homebound members involved, please reach out to one of us or email [email protected].
Pat Tebordo has been doing a fantastic job heading up our Poppy Committee. National Poppy Day is May 24th this year. Pat has been working tirelessly to find places where we will be able to display our poppies for donations. Thank You Pat!
We will be posting a date very soon to make new wreaths for our Memorial Day celebrations. All the supplies to do so are in. We will be reaching out via social media to see if anyone would like to help put them together once we get a date. Memorial Day is fast approaching already! We hope you can join us for our celebrations and parade on Monday, May 27th.
May is also election month for the Auxiliary. Nominations are in, but we will also be taking nominations from the floor prior to elections. If you would like to run for an office, please be at the May 7 meeting at 6pm.
Bingo Kitchen has been hard at work to keep up with the increase in attendance at bingo. I want to thank everyone that donated to our Fridays to help the Auxiliary raise money for our programs. I do have a request. If you are not working in the kitchen, please refrain from being in there during the Bingo hours. It gets quite busy at times and if you are not helping, you are just in the way as the ladies try to serve everyone. So, unless one of the Bingo Kitchen staff asks for your help, please stay outside of the kitchen. Thank You in advance!
Our last meeting before summer will be our June meeting. There are no meetings in July and August. We will resume in September and begin our extremely exciting 2025 season!
You are all appreciated!
Thank You
Julie Montello, President Unit 574
