Sons Corner - March 2025
It’s the Sons Corner with Squadron 574 Commander Dan Lancette!
Greetings Squadron and Legion Post 574 family, I certainly hope everyone is doing ok. I apologize for missing the February Newsletter, but don’t worry, I can make up for it in March’s edition.
The 4 Chaplain Memorial Breakfast was to be held on February 9th, then it was postponed to February 16th, then cancelled all together because of the weather. We will not be rescheduling this event, it will return on February 8th, 2026. As for March, the Legion Family breakfast will be on Sunday the 9th, serving regular times of 8 AM to 11 AM. The Squadron has decided to temporarily increase the individual breakfast price from $10 to $11. This is due to the egg product price increase. We, the volunteers enjoy serving breakfast, our mission is to give community members and Legion Members a place to enjoy a good meal in a safe place with great company. Hope to see everyone and thank you for joining us for breakfast.
March 15th is the American Legion Birthday Dinner and Awards night. Check out the flyer for details. For all that plan on attending, PLEASE sign up in the Lounge at the Post by March 10th. Dinner for Members is free and non-members are a $10 donation. This is the night we present Continuous Years Membership Award, Appreciation award, Son of the Year and the Squadron Commanders Choice Award, I can choose from any of our Post 574 Family. Following the Birthday Dinner, we go right into St Patty’s Day. March 17th. Dinner will be available that day, again, PLEASE sign up in Post Lounge, the head count is very important when buying product for these events, waste not, want not. (as they say).
March is also the start of the annual “They Marched for Us, We Walk for Them” Walk-A-Thon. The 1st is the kick-off date to start the donation collections and Walk Boots Donations. Donation Packets with all information will be available at the Post. Last year with the combined effort of many volunteers, $11,500.00 was raised. Let’s get together and make this year, as always, even better. The Walk date is April 19th, 2025. More info to follow.
During February’s meeting 2 South Glens Falls High school students, Abby Perkins and Carter Hunt are participating in the annual Marathon Dance were each awarded a donation of $500.00 to help them reach their goals in fundraising.
The Post Family Pavilion kitchen renovations will begin towards the end of March, beginning of April, weather permitting. The Squadron has allocated $3,000.00 for materials for project, all labor is volunteer. I will keep an update posted for those who want to help.
Squadron membership is at 98% paid for 2025. Just a few more to reach that 100%. If you have not paid your 2025 dues ($20), your membership is temporarily suspended until paid. That’s the rule. Just a heads up, nominations for Squadron officers is in April. Most current officers have been in place 8 to 10 years, time for new fresh ideas. Please consider a nomination and becoming a future leader.
We have some members that have not been to the Post in a while, let’s get them back. Bring one and all and show them what they have been missing, Karaoke on the 1st and 3rd weekends, the new Queen of Hearts game, Bingo on Fridays, the Museum, how about just the comradery of fellow members. We have a great place to call home, time for the family to reunite. Check out the calendar of events, always something for everyone. Volunteers are always needed. Getting bored? Come on in, we got something for you.
In closing, don’t forget those who have and those who do sacrifice family and friends to protect us, our veterans, active military and first responders, say thank you, or even buy that person a coffee. A little recognition goes a long way. God bless to all and our great and getting greater Nation.
Sincerely - Dan Lancette - Squadron 574 Commander
