Sons Corner - May 2024
Salutations to Squadron 574 and all legion family members, how is everyone? Hopefully all is well with you reading this. May is upon us already, time flies right? All of May is a month of remembrance, remembering those who fought in all wars to preserve our way of life and defending our Constitution. Those members of our military who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending the freedom we enjoy in our daily lives. Let us always remember, never forget.
The Memorial Day Parades are Monday, May 27th, kicking off in Kingsbury for the Moss Street Parade, starting at the Franklin Street side of the Hudson Falls High School going north on Rt 4 ending at the Moss Street Cemetery for Wreath Services. Afterwards we will continue to Juckett Park for next Memorial Wreath service. The Hudson Falls Parade will form at the Village Library heading south on Rt 4 ending at Union Cemetery for Memorial Wreath service and finally returning to Post 574 for final Wreath Service and lunch. We will be decorating a float for the parades at the Post on Sunday morning at 9:30, anyone who wants to help, please join us.
The Squadron meeting is on Tuesday the 21st, nominations for Officers will be closed and voting begins. Any member in good standing can take a nomination of a Squadron Officer. Please contact John Malvuccio if you may be interested. Installation of officers will be in June. Thank you to all current officers for a job well done this past year. Our Squadron is stronger than ever.
May 12th is Mothers’ Day… and what could be better than bringing Mom out for breakfast? Bringing Mom to our Legion Family Breakfast! The Squadron 574 has always treated all Moms to a complimentary breakfast for their special day with a special gift from us. Serving 8 to 11 AM. This is the last breakfast until September 8th.
Back on April 20th, we held the 17th Annual “They Marched for Us, We Walk for Them” Don Keech and Donna Graham Memorial Walkathon (boy that’s a mouth full). Thank you very much to all who helped raise donations, we are approximately $11,000 collected, but still counting. Thirty-six people joined us and a few puppies for the walk that day, great turn out. Thank you to the Auxiliary for providing lunch for everyone.
I can’t emphasize enough how important our volunteers are, they truly keep the Post open. I encourage everyone to try and volunteer at least once a month, it does make a difference. Don’t know exactly where you may be needed? Just ask any of the leadership members.
Remember what Memorial Day is about, remember all those who served, shake that hand of a Veteran, active military, first responder and volunteers and say thank you. It does mean something to someone. God Bless to all, our communities and our Great Nation.
Sincerely – Dan Lancette – SAL Squadron 574 Commander.
