Sons Corner - May 2025

Greetings Squadron and Legion Post 574 Family. Well, it happened. The April Showers brought in the May Flowers (no Pilgrims though). Happy May Day! Better yet, Happy Mothers’ Day to all our Moms. Thank You to all Moms who raised us and endured the pain and pleasures of being “Mom”.

Another very important date is May 26th, Memorial Day when we reflect and remember all our Veterans and Service men and women who were called home for their final duty. With this year being the 50th Anniversary of the end of the US support in Vietnam, we especially honor those Veterans and all the POW/MIA’s still unaccounted for. Come out and support the American Legion Post 574 sponsored Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26th. A full itinerary list of the day’s events is available at the Post Lounge. The Pavilion kitchen expansion continues this month. Walls, siding and entry door have been installed, next will be electric upgrade with new lighting, outlets and other necessities. Volunteers will still be needed for clean up, planting flowers around pavilion, our Memorial in parking lot under Our Flag. Anyone wishing to donate flowers please contact our Post Commander or myself

The Squadron Membership has hit the milestone numbers again at over 102% paid members! Fantastic job to all recruiting for new members and to 1st Vice John Santa-Croce and Adjutant Big Dan Nolin for keeping track of our Squadron 574 membership. Nominations are in for Squadron Officers for the 2025/26 membership year. We will be voting this month of May, this will be the absolute last day for nominations off the floor. Please bring a current (2025) Membership ID card to be eligible to vote.

Some Dates for your Calendar – Riders Chapter 574 monthly meeting is on Thursday, May 8th (7PM), Post 574 House meeting is Tuesday, May 14th (6:30PM, ALL Post members are invited), Legion Family “Mothers’ Day” Breakfast is May 11th, Serving 8 to 11 AM (all Mom’s eat free), Sons Meeting on Tuesday May 20thth (7PM), Legion Family Pig Roast (sponsored by Bingo Committee) May 17th. Memorial Day Parade on May 26th.

This years’ “They Marched for Us, We Walk for Them” Don Keech/Donna Graham Memorial Walk-A-Thon held on April 19th was another great event. Over 20 walkers parading our Post banners for Legion 574 Family, Be the One and of course the Walk-A-Thon. Final numbers will be reported next month when all donations have been collected. You have until May 30th to get in your contributions. Thank you to everyone who participated in 2025, without the continued dedication of the volunteers, our events would not be the success they are.

Remember when out in our communities, if you see a Vet, Active Service personnel or First Responder, thank them for keeping us safe. God Bless to all and the United States. Home of the Free, Because of the Brave.
