Sons Corner - October 2024
Hello Squadron 574 and Legion Post 574 Family, how is everyone doing? October is here, already! Leaves are falling and the raking has begun. If there is a veteran in need of assistance with any type of yard work, lend them a hand. If you can’t, contact someone in our community that may be able to help. Here at the SAL Squadron 574, we have some able members that will help out when needed. It’s part of the what we do.
As we all know, the calendar never sleeps and October 5th is the SAL 4th District quarterly meeting at Post 574. Lunch starts at 11:30am and the meeting is 1pm. This is a good chance to meet other Sons members from our district and possibly help each other out. ALL Sons are invited to attend.
The September 9/11 Memorial Breakfast was a great 1st of the season event. October 13th is the next Legion Family breakfast, serving 8 to 11am. This is also the start date of the Annual Lottery Christmas Tree Raffle. Winner receives a 7ft-6in pre-lit Christmas tree and $1,000 of NY Lottery Scratch-Offs. This is the 14th year holding this raffle, the past 13 years has generated $45,600 to date. A huge thank you to all that support us. Raffle tickets are as always $10 each with only 500 available. Winner will be drawn by Santa on Dec 8th during Breakfast with Santa.
Squadron membership is doing very well and we are close to 80% paid! If this momentum keeps up, we will be 100% before end year. Squadron 574 welcomes to our Legion Family new member David Waters and 2 transfers, Jaykob Neddo and Conner LaFayette. For members who have paid their dues by October 1st, there will be the Early Bird dinner on Saturday, October 19th. The Sons Kitchen Committee will be preparing this dinner for all to enjoy. Sign up at the Post Lounge, $5 for members and $10 for non-Legion members. During dinner, I will be drawing a member’s name to win your 2026 dues paid by Squadron.
October 26th is the annual Halloween event titled “A Haunting Day On Pearl St”. Volunteers are needed for handing out candy to Trick-or-Treaters, cooking, setup and cleanup. More to be discussed at House Meeting, Tuesday, October 8th, 6:30pm.
Volunteers are always needed for our events at the Post so jump in with both feet and be a volunteer. All volunteer hours are logged and used to create revenue for the American Legion in the form of grants. The more hours we have, the more money available for our programs.
Friday, October 25th, 5pm, at the Lake George Post 374 there will be a meet and greet with the SAL National Commander, Joseph Navarette of New Mexico. He will be visiting the 4th District for the Detachment of NY DEC Fall Convention Oct. 25-26th. Everyone is invited.
Remember to thank all those that sacrifice so we can be free as Americans. God Bless to them and to you.
Sincerely, Dan Lancette, SAL Squadron 574 Commander
