Sons Corner - September 2024
Happy September to all Squadron 574 and American Legion Post 574 family. I certainly hope everyone has enjoyed the Summer so far, even though a little hot and sticky at times, July and August were good months.
Here we go with our new Membership year of 2024/25, the ’25 cards came in July and already there is more than 60% of memberships paid. Great job being diligent and paying those dues so fast. Simply awesome! Squadron members, remember to recruit any possible new eligible applicants (even for the Legionnaires), the stronger our numbers are, the bigger the voice we have on Capitol Hill for our Veterans. Get your dues paid before October 1st to be eligible for the Early Bird dinner and also a drawing to get your 2026 membership dues paid.
Over the Summer, the Squadron Kitchen committee didn’t slow down. From helping at the Post 574 Annual Golf Tournament and Riders’ Chicken BBQ in June, to the Riders” benefit ride and Catered events in August. A huge Thank You to Big Dan and all those that Volunteered. Great Job!! The fun doesn’t stop either, on Sunday, September 8th, breakfast is back. The 9/11 Memorial Breakfast where all First Responders and Nurses enjoy a free breakfast from the Squadron. During this breakfast we will be recognizing the timeline of events of 9/11/01 throughout the morning.
There have also been other volunteers working around the Post 574 building and grounds, clearing brush near the pavilion and the back of the building, removing trash, installing new lights for the parking lot and just keeping up with regular maintenance. Don’t forget about the garden started by Woody Miller (WOW!!). Thank you to those members for working so hard keeping things nice for all to enjoy.
Monthly meetings will resume on Tuesday, September 17th starting at 7PM. Come in early and social with other Squadron and Legion members. Many new topics for discussion coming up. The more members at the meetings the better the discussions.

There will be a committee assembled for this years “Nightmare on Pearl St” Halloween event. More will be discussed at the monthly House meeting on Tuesday, September 13th. Starting at 6:30PM, this meeting is open to the all membership of Post 574. Bring your ideas.

As always, when you pass a Veteran, Active Military, First Responder or nurses, thank them for sacrificing their time to keep us safe. God bless to them and all and the United States of America.
Sincerely – Dan Lancette – SAL Squadron 574 Commander
