Sons Corner - June 2025
It’s the Sons Corner with Squadron 574 Commander - Dan Lancette
Greetings Squadron and Legion Post 574 Family. Here we are in June, 2025. Beginning of Summer, BBQ’s, camping, boating, fishing, vacations maybe. How you choose to enjoy the coming season, be safe, have fun. Remember to stop and smell the roses or the first morning cup of coffee on the deck, most of all, appreciate what and who is around you. Family… wether the one you grew up with or the extended one that was created. This June, on the 15th, we celebrate our Dad’s. We may have not always have seen eye to eye on things, but we listened and appreciated the life’s lessons taught by you. For some like myself, we celebrate a Heavenly Fathers’ Day. Those Dad’s will always be with us. Happy Fathers’ Day to all our Dads.
Sons Corner - May 2025
Greetings Squadron and Legion Post 574 Family. Well, it happened. The April Showers brought in the May Flowers (no Pilgrims though). Happy May Day! Better yet, Happy Mothers’ Day to all our Moms. Thank You to all Moms who raised us and endured the pain and pleasures of being “Mom”.
Another very important date is May 26th, Memorial Day when we reflect and remember all our Veterans and Service men and women who were called home for their final duty. With this year being the 50th Anniversary of the end of the US support in Vietnam, we especially honor those Veterans and all the POW/MIA’s still unaccounted for. Come out and support the American Legion Post 574 sponsored Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26th. A full itinerary list of the day’s events is available at the Post Lounge. Want to Participate in walking or entering a float? Contact Dana Warren, Parade Chairperson.
Sons Corner - April 2025
Greetings and Salutations Squadron and Legion Post 574 Family. How’s everyone doing so far in 2025? Can you believe we are into April already? You can by looking at a calendar. We are certainly happy that Spring is here, April showers bringing in the May flowers, Spring clean up (not looking forward to that).
Volunteers are needed for painting, pressure washing and pavilion remodeling. The Squadron has allocated $3,000 to expand our Family Pavilion’s kitchen and work begins the first weekend in April. Newer appliances were purchased including an electric deep fryer, 48" propane griddle, 3 door deli/sandwich prep cooler. This expansion will definitely increase the versatility of our pavilion for future events. Further notices will be posted on the Facebook Page - Sons of the American Legion #574.
Sons Corner - March 2025
It’s the Sons Corner with Squadron 574 Commander Dan Lancette!
Greetings Squadron and Legion Post 574 family, I certainly hope everyone is doing ok. I apologize for missing the February Newsletter, but don’t worry, I can make up for it in March’s edition.
The 4 Chaplain Memorial Breakfast was to be held on February 9th, then it was postponed to February 16th, then cancelled all together because of the weather. We will not be rescheduling this event, it will return on February 8th, 2026. As for March, the Legion Family breakfast will be on Sunday the 9th, serving regular times of 8 AM to 11 AM. The Squadron has decided to temporarily increase the individual breakfast price from $10 to $11. This is due to the egg product price increase. We, the volunteers enjoy serving breakfast, our mission is to give community members and Legion Members a place to enjoy a good meal in a safe place with great company. Hope to see everyone and thank you for joining us for breakfast.
Sons Corner - January 2025
Happy New Year to All my American Legion Family!! Here we go again into a new year of reflection, remembrance and starting over for 2025. May all the differences that may have been be gone, friends and families united, communities coming together and stronger than ever. I believe that this year will be our best yet, 2024 ended on a fantastic level for our Legion Family coming together. Although we may have had to say goodbye to some, we also have said hello to new family members arriving into this world.
Sons Corner - December 2024
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all Squadron and Post 574 Family! I certainly hope these festive days are treating everyone well. Thanksgiving was great, football, turkey, more football, pumpkin and apple pies, last of football, pass out. Doesn’t get any better, there was family over and a good time for all as well. Now here we are in December, the last month of the year, please remember those who may need a little more this time of year. The holidays can be tough for some, that’s why there is the “Buddy Check” or even the Legion “Be the One” program. If you know of someone in need, don’t hesitate to call for helping hands or ears.
Sons Corner - November 2024
Happy Veterans Day and a Happy Thanksgiving to our Legion Post 574 Family. How time flies, here we are starting the Holiday season. Is everyone ready? I’m barely over Halloween and here comes two of my favorite days, one that is a food feast and the other a celebration of how we are still a free Nation. And also an Election Day!! I hope everybody was able to vote on November 5th, the veterans we celebrate are the reason we can vote, always remember.
Sons Corner - October 2024
Hello Squadron 574 and Legion Post 574 Family, how is everyone doing? October is here, already! Leaves are falling and the raking has begun. If there is a veteran in need of assistance with any type of yard work, lend them a hand. If you can’t, contact someone in our community that may be able to help. Here at the SAL Squadron 574, we have some able members that will help out when needed. It’s part of the what we do.
Sons Corner - September 2024
Happy September to all Squadron 574 and American Legion Post 574 family. I certainly hope everyone has enjoyed the Summer so far, even though a little hot and sticky at times, July and August were good months.
Here we go with our new Membership year of 2024/25, the ’25 cards came in July and already there is more than 60% of memberships paid. Great job being diligent and paying those dues so fast. Simply awesome! Squadron members, remember to recruit any possible new eligible applicants (even for the Legionnaires), the stronger our numbers are, the bigger the voice we have on Capitol Hill for our Veterans. Get your dues paid before October 1st to be eligible for the Early Bird dinner and also a drawing to get your 2026 membership dues paid.
Sons Corner - June 2024

The 3rd annual Post 574 golf tournament is on the 15th, deadline is closing in to register a team, $90 per player, includes cart, breakfast, lunch and dinner (everything).
Sons Corner - May 2024
Salutations to Squadron 574 and all legion family members, how is everyone? Hopefully all is well with you reading this. May is upon us already, time flies right? All of May is a month of remembrance, remembering those who fought in all wars to preserve our way of life and defending our Constitution. Those members of our military who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending the freedom we enjoy in our daily lives. Let us always remember, never forget.
Sons Corner - April 2024
Happy Spring greetings to all my Squadron and Legion 574 family. Hope everyone is doing well. How did you enjoy March? I think a certain ground hog ended up on a rotisserie. I can’t wait to see what April has in store for us. Maybe the early Spring “forecaster” will redeem itself.
Squadron membership is very strong for 2024. We are currently at 106% with regular and new members paid. Welcome to the newest members to the Squadron – Jim Matteson and Kevin Morris. Welcome to the Post 574 Family. Retaining and recruiting is very important since the bigger the numbers in membership, the more votes we have on Capitol Hill for funding Veteran Services.
